In this study, we show how changing a frequency in one of N chaotic circuits coupled by a resistor effects our system by means of both circuit experiment and computer calculation. In these N chaotic circuits, N-1 circuits are completely identical, and the remaining one has altered the value of the oscillation frequency. It is found that for the case of N = 3 when a value of a coupling resistor is gradually increased, only one circuit with different frequency exhibits bifurcation phenomena including inverse period-doubling bifurcation, and for larger value of coupling resistor, the chaotic circuit with different frequency suddenly stops oscillating and the remaining two chaotic circuits exhibit completely anti-phase synchronization.

Nonuniform transmission lines are crucial in integrated circuits and printed circuit boards, because these circuits have complex geometries and layout between the multi layers, and most of the transmission lines possess nonuniform characteristics. In this article, an efficient numerical method for analyzing nonuniform transmission lines has been presented by using the Chebyshev expansion method and moment techniques. Efficiency on computational cost is demonstrated by numerical example.
In this paper, a middle-mapping learning algorithm for cellular associative memories is presented. This algorithm makes full use of the properties of the cellular neural network so that the associative memory has some advantages compared with the memory designed by the ourter product method. It can guarantee each prototype is stored at an equilibrium point. In the practical implementation, it is easy to build up the circuit because the weight matrix presenting the connection between cells is not symmetric. The synchronous updating rule makes its associative speed very fast compared to the Hopfield associative memory.

In this paper, we propose a new algorithm for calculating the exact poles of the admittance matrix of RLCG interconnects. After choosing dominant poles and corresponding residues, each element of the exact admittance matrix is approximated by partial fraction. A procedure to obtain the residues that guarantee the passivity is also provided, based on experimental studies. In the procedure the residues are calculated by using the least squares method so that the partial fraction matches each element of the exact admittance matrix in the frequency-domain. From the partial fraction representation, the asymptotic equivalent circuit models which can be easily simulated with SPICE are synthesized. It is shown that an efficient model-order reduction is possible for short-length interconnects.
In this paper, we discuss computational methods for obtaining the bifurcation points and the branch directions at branching points of solution curves for the nonlinear resistive circuits. There are many kinds of the bifurcation points such as limit point, branch point and isolated point. At these points, the Jacobian matrix of circuit equation becomes singular so that we cannot directly apply the usual numerical techniques such as Newton-Raphson method. Therefore, we propose a simple modification technique such that the Newton-Raphson method can be also applied to the modified equations. On the other hand, a curve tracing algorithm can continuously trace the solution curves having the limit points and/or branching points. In this case, we can see whether the curve has passed through a bifurcation point or not by checking the sign of determinant of the Jacobian matrix. We also propose two different methods for calculating the directions of branches at branching point. Combining these algorithms, complicated solution curves will be easily traced by the curve tracing method. We show the example of a Hopfield network in Sect.5.

Analysis of frequency-dependent lossy transmission lines is very important for designing the high-speed VLSI, MCM and PCB. The frequency-dependent parameters are always obtained as tabulated data. In this paper, a new curve fitting technique of the tabulated data for the moment matching technique in the interconnect analysis is presented. This method based on Chebyshev interpolation enhances the efficiency of the moment matching technique.

In this paper some new results for analog hardware realization of secure communication system using chaos synchronization have been presented. In particular the effect of the use of transmission line as channel has been considered assuming practical implementation. The influence of the loss of transmission line and mismatching on synchronization has been investigated in chaotic systems based on the Pecora-Carroll concept. It has been shown that desynchronization due to loss can be checked by using an amplifier with appropriate gain. Moreover the bit error rate (BER) has been evaluated in a digital communication system based on the principle of chaotic masking.

In this study, a simple chaos communication system including modulation-demodulation circuits is studied. The influence of modulation-demodulation circuits to chaos synchronization is investigated. For the estimation of communication quality, bit error rate (BER) is calculated by computer simulation when a sequential random pulse information signal is transmitted via this proposed system.

We propose here a fully Spice-oriented design algorithm of op-amps for attaining the maximum gains under low power consumptions and assigned slew-rates. Our optimization algorithm is based on a well-known steepest descent method combining with nonlinear programming. The algorithm is realized by equivalent RC circuits with ABMs (analog behavior models) of Spice. The gradient direction is decided by the analysis of sensitivity circuits. The optimum parameters can be found at the equilibrium point in the transient response of the RC circuit. Although the optimization time is much faster than the other design tools, the results might be rough because of the simple transistor models. If much better parameter values are required, they can be improved with Spice simulator and/or other tools.

Cellular Neural Networks (CNNs) have been developed as a high-speed parallel signal-processing platform. In this paper, a generalized two-layer cellular neural network model is proposed for image processing, in which two templates are introduced between the two layers. We found from the simulations that the two-layer CNNs efficiently behave compared to the single-layer CNNs for the many applications of image processing. For examples, simulation problems such as linearly non-separable task--logic XOR, center point detection and object separation, etc. can be efficiently solved with the two-layer CNNs. The stability problems of the two-layer CNNs with symmetric and/or special coupling templates are also discussed based on the Lyapunov function technique. Its equilibrium points are found from the trajectories in a phase plane, whose results agree with those from simulations.

Recently, we have discovered wave propagation phenomena which are continuously existing waves of changing phase states between two adjacent oscillators from in-phase to anti-phase or from anti-phase to in-phase in van der Pol oscillators coupled by inductors as a ladder. We named the phenomena as "phase-inversion waves." In this study, phase-inversion waves which exist in the state of in-and-anti-phase synchronization have been found. We observe the phenomena by circuit experiments and computer calculations, and investigate them.

In this study, nonlinear wave phenomena related to transmissions and reflections of the phase-inversion waves around a discontinuity of a coupled system consisting of two kinds of arrays of van der Pol oscillators are investigated. By computer simulations, behavior of the phase-inversion waves around the discontinuity in the coupled system is classified into eight types. Further, the mechanisms of the transmission and the reflection of a phase-inversion wave at the discontinuity are explained. Circuit experiments confirm the simulated results.

In this paper, a simple chaotic circuit using two RC phase shift oscillators and a diode is proposed and analyzed. By using a simpler model of the original circuit, the mechanism of generating chaos is explained and the exact solutions are derived. The exact expression of the Poincare map and its Jacobian matrix make it possible to confirm the generation of chaos using the Lyapunov exponents and to investigate the related bifurcation phenomena.
